What’s Normal After Surgery
Don’t be alarmed if you notice:
- Mild soreness or tenderness as the anesthesia wears off
- Slight bleeding or oozing for the first day
- Swelling that peaks around day two and then improves
- Temporary sensitivity to certain foods
These are part of your body’s natural healing process. If you notice heavy bleeding, worsening pain, fever, or signs of infection, contact us at Garden Oaks Dental right away.
- Rest and recharge. Give your body downtime—no strenuous workouts for the first 24–48 hours.
- Soothe swelling. Cold compresses (first 36 hours) then moist heat can make a big difference.
- Soft, nourishing foods. Think smoothies, yogurt, mashed potatoes, and soups (just not too hot).
- Stay hydrated. Water is key—just skip the straw.
- Gentle care. Use a soft toothbrush, rinse with warm salt water, and follow your dentist’s instructions carefully.
- Healing support. Your doctor may have recommended a prescribed medication—or a natural option like StellaLife® VEGA Oral Care Recovery Kit, which many patients love for reducing swelling, speeding up healing, and easing discomfort. Don’t worry if you run out, you can always pick up more from the office- call us.
Don’ts—Protect Your Gums
- Don’t smoke or use tobacco—it slows healing.
- Avoid spicy, hot, acidic, crunchy, or chewy foods until cleared.
- Skip straws and forceful spitting (they can dislodge clots).
- Don’t poke or prod the surgical site with your tongue, fingers, or floss.
- Hold off on heavy workouts for a few days.

Following these guidelines helps your gums heal faster and keeps your results long-lasting. Many of our patients at Garden Oaks Dental find that combining professional care with natural healing support like StellaLife® makes recovery smoother and more comfortable.
